Making Your Laptop Battery Last Longer

If you are working on a laptop on an assignment with a tight deadline, the last thing you hope to see is the laptop battery icon giving a warning. Unfortunately laptop batteries are not made to hold a lot of power and most last for a maximum 4 hours. This leads to frequent recharging which leads to a faster deterioration of the battery. A failed battery makes the laptop useless in the sense that it cannot be unhooked from the mains. It is a source of frustration for many laptop users.

Many notebook users fail to give their batteries a breathing period. They mostly use their machines when hooked to the wall socket. This leads to both the laptop battery charger and the battery itself overheating. This should be avoided. Ensure your battery is full and unhook it from the wall socket. Charge the battery only if it is close to dying, unless circumstance dictate otherwise. You could also ensure that you have the right charger for the battery. Some chargers can undercharge or overpower the battery.

Everything needs a rest. You could consider getting a spare battery to change with the other every once in a while. This makes the battery get a breather and remain in shape for a longer period. Also remember to get the right battery for the right machine. Get IBM laptop batteries if you are using an IBM notebook. This makes sure the battery gets used just as it was designed for. The battery is a delicate thing but with right handling it will give you longer service.
